距离(distance)和取代(displacement)的区别

距离和位移是用来描述两个给定点之间路径的两个术语。从另一个给定的点到一个给定的点可以走很多条路。在任何情况下，有一条路径是两个给定点之间的最短路径。距离和位移是指物体从一个点到另一个点的运动，或给定点相对于另一个点的位置。从字面上看，“距离”和“位移”给出了相同的概念。但在物理学中，“距离”和“位移”不能互换使用。它们有特定的和不同的含义。距离和位移的主要区别在于距离是一个标量，而位移是一个矢量。
什么是距离(distance)？
距离是一个标量。因此，它只有一个量级。从另一个给定点到一个给定点有无限多条路径。下图显示了O和A之间的三条这样的路径。这三条路都从O点开始，到A点结束。但是路径1在点O和A之间有最短的距离。任意两点之间的最短路径是直线段。任何其他路径的距离都比路径1长，并且取决于路径。在给定的图中，路径2的距离大于路径1的距离，但小于路径3的距离。

什么是取代(displacement)？
位移是矢量。位移的大小等于两个给定点之间的最短距离。在上图中，从O点到A点的最短路径由路径1给出，它是一条直线段。所以位移等于OA线段的长度。物体从O移动到A的位移大小，无论路径如何，通过任何路径都是相同的。不管怎样，只要我们表示位移，就必须给出方向，因为它是矢量。
