Make a DIY standing desk

I’ve had an IKEA RAST nightstand kicking around the house for a while. It was marvelously cheap (under $15 I think) and has been repurposed in many ways over the years. Recently, I plopped it on top of my desk. Now I have the perfect height standing desk! It takes up so little room that I still have a space next to it to put my laptop when I prefer to sit.

I am currently reading “The Pisces” by Melissa Broder, which is just as good as everyone is saying it is, if not a bit * too * real (minus the Merman, of course).

Stop yourself from spiraling out in times of stress

I’m approaching tech week for a theater show I’m in, so I’m not so much “upgrading” my life as I am trying to maintain normal levels of sleep, food, and friendliness. So far, I have only managed to achieve one of these three goals, but I look forward to getting a little “rest and relaxation” this weekend. And maybe pizza. Undoubtedly pizza.

Spend your warm weather weekends at the pool

We got a family membership to a local indoor pool and have basically been living there on weekday evenings. It’s one of the best lazy-parent decisi*** I’ve made. My kid can get all her extra energy out and I can get a little exercise, too. We’ll eat a picnic dinner there with paper plates, and then shower, get into pajamas and head home. Sometimes, my kid will even pass out in the car. Total win.

Clean your soap with MORE soap

I cleaned my shower of soap scum, after hearing the pro-body wash elite complain how bar soap leaves soap scum on shower walls. Turns out it comes off super easily with regular old dish soap. Didn’t cost me anything, only took about 3 minutes. I will still not use body wash.

I got drinks again with a reader I met during my “Pick My Brain” month. Every time, we end up talking about the state of tech and whether the future is going to be garbage. He got a job in San Mateo, so we’re getting one last drinks next week before he moves. Now I’ll have a new geek friend in Silicon Valley!

Whiten your teeth without overpriced strips

This week I hopped on the bandwagon (or what seems to be a bandwagon based on my Instagram feed?) and tried whitening my teeth with activated charcoal. The results weren’t incredible, but they were good enough that I’ll keep doing it. Plus, it’s cheaper than Crest WhiteStrips and much less painful, so I count it as a win.
