什么是系统方法？(the systems approach?)
系统方法是将一组相关元素视为一个整体的跨学科方法。系统方法起源于20世纪40年代的数学家、物理学家和工程师的研究。这些思想家们开始意识到，许多东西，从计算机到细菌到池塘，都可以作为一个系统来研究，也可以作为一组定期相互作用的物品来研究，形成统一的整体。
奥地利生物学家路德维希·冯·贝塔朗菲决定将系统思维和生物学的思想结合到一个关于生命系统的普遍理论中。他的模型被称为一般系统理论。贝塔朗菲宣称，一个系统可以是物理的、生物的、心理的、社会学的，甚至是象征性的。他还指出，每个系统都是更大系统的子系统，每个系统都包含子系统。
系统方法中最著名的思想之一是，系统使用正反馈和负反馈来维持内稳态，内稳态被定义为稳定的平衡状态。负反馈表示系统正在偏离轨道，并向系统发出信号，要求其自行纠正。积极反馈确认系统处于正确的轨道上。
反馈回路的一个常见示例是家用冷却系统。如果恒温器设定在某一温度，则该温度为稳态。当家里的空气变得太热时，恒温器会给出负反馈，触发空调启动。如果温度正确，恒温器将提供正反馈，无需采取任何措施。
系统方法应用于许多领域，包括生物学、物理学、工程学、软件设计、社会学和家庭治疗。系统方法的思想具有普遍性，几乎适用于任何情况。系统思考者从广泛的角度来解决问题，试图审视所有相关的系统和子系统。系统理论家认识到考虑所有相关信息是理想的，但并非人类所能做到的，因此引入了边界批判的概念，即决策总是基于哪些事实和想法被认为是相关的，哪些是不相关的。。
系统方法被用于许多研究领域，但它也启发了一些特定领域。协同学和未来学是基于系统方法的跨学科研究领域。协同学专注于系统内的自组织原理。未来学家试图了解未来——哪些趋势将继续，哪些将结束，哪些新趋势将开始。这两门学科都源于系统方法，研究各种各样的现象。
